State and federal laws and regulations can have a profound impact on medicine. MSSC works with the Kansas Medical Association to monitor legislative activity and advocate on behalf of physicians and patients. MSSC also has a committee of physicians that meets regularly during the legislative session to track and discuss legislation, and MSSC hosts an annual dinner with state lawmakers from Sedgwick County.

SedgPAC is a political action committee that is separate from the Medical Society of Sedgwick County. It supports candidates in state races, primarily for the Kansas Legislature.

Maintaining constructive relationships with state lawmakers is essential to effective advocacy. Many issues come before the Legislature that can impact patient care and the practice of medicine. SedgPAC seeks to maintain open lines of communication with lawmakers as they consider these important issues.
